Hi, my name is Mike Bakke, I’ve been a Fireman at Big Sky Fire Department since October of 2013. Before that I worked for a fire department in NW Washington where I also attended university. In my free time I like to ski, ride bikes and enjoy quality time with my friends and family. I am proud to call Big Sky my home.

I was raised as an Iowa farm boy. I am an engineering graduate from Iowa State and spent 38 years working for Cat in Illinois so my wife and I came to Big Sky a couple of weeks after I retired and have never looked back. I got my EMT so I could be a volunteer ski patrol and then joined Big Sky Fire in 2007 as support staff / ambulance driver. I have really enjoyed working with the fine staff and department. This has also been a way to give back to the community in a way I never really had time to do while I was working.  I spend my summers here hiking with some light mountaineering. The fall brings on some traveling and a little hunting. With winter skiing both at resort and some cross country. Buy the time spring rolls around we are ready get get out of here so usually head south for some warm weather hike in the canyon country of the southwest.

After a career in the Banking Industry my wife and I moved to Big Sky in 2007 and then retired. I joined the Big Sky fire Department in 2013 as an EMT. I like to hike, ski, kayak, and play pickle ball.
